Where'd He Go?

Hey all my fellow geeks and nerds! Sorry I haven't been posting, but I have three more classes until I earn my graphic design degree! I've been a little busy with my new job in graphic/web design, plus some other side ventures.  But rest assured that when, things come down again after school, I will begin posting again.  Till then, keep on gaming Gamers!

Crazy Bill is Crazy Cool

Hey y'all. Just wanted to let you know about this cool 8-bit game on the apple store called Crazy Bill at the Zombie Stars Hotel. It's free, but you can pay to get the ads removed and for some other cool things. But if you are looking for a quick gaming fix with an old school look, this is it.

Crazy Bill
You are Crazy Bill, and your goal is to get up as many floors in this hotel full of zombies while taking out as many of them as you can. The controls are really easy too, the right side of the screen shoots, and the left side jumps. He automatically runs on his own, so you don't have to worry about that. In between games, you can purchase upgrades and cool weapons to help you along the way.

Bill blasting with the ice gun
Now along the way up, you will encounter some familiar zombies. These are the Zombie Stars who stay in the hotel. Once you reach their floor and blast them, you can view them in the main menu, along with other goodies you unlock through achievements.

So if you like blasting Zombies, and celebrity zombies, then this is the game for you. That's it for now, but come back soon because my next post will be on Bioshock Infinite, and I will have a video up of the un-boxing of my Ultimate Songbird Edition! Until next time, keep on gaming Gamers!

Tomb Raider

Lara's Back!

Hey all! So I just started playing the new Tomb Raider, (thanks for the birthday gift Mom!). Anyway, all I can say is, Wow! This game has some amazing graphics, the lighting is amazing, character models are so life like, and the expansive environments are breathtaking.

Now if you've played any of the Tomb Raiders, or seen any of the movies (I'm so sorry for you if you did), then you probably remember Lara Croft as the fearless, take no crap from anybody Tomb Raider, but did you ever wonder what she was like in the beginning of her career? Well then, pop this game in and find out how Lara became the way she is today.

Young Lara Croft

So in this game, Lara is still young and new to the archaeology game. Now, I'm not very far in the game yet, but the parts that I've played have shown how Lara has not always been the tough rugged woman she has been in previous games. In this Tomb Raider, you see Lara how she was on her first adventure when things start to go wrong. They make her seem almost human, like us. Not the treasure hunting robot with little emotion, but you can actually see how scared she really is. Her lips trembling from the fear and the cold, her every wound a painful experience that never just disappears like most games. Her wounds from the beginning of the game are still on her later on in the story. Some she bandages, some she just lives with, and some are on the inside.

Ouch!
What do I mean by that? Well, you will witness Lara's very first kill in this game. After that happens, you can see how affected she was by it, I mean the amount of emotion that she shows with her voice, body language, and facial expressions is amazing. It really gives you a connection to the character, when you see how lifelike she is and acts. It really gets you that much more involved in the story.

I'd be scared too!

So that's it for now. I still have a ways to go in this game, but to summarize what I've experienced so far, fear, excitement, anticipation. These are just a few of the feelings that I can think of. The graphics, outstanding. The sound, amazing. I mean, playing with surround sound when you are in a cave. The music, and the sound of dripping water from the roof of the cave mixed with the sound of a storm outside are just fantastic. And last but not least, the controls are fluid and easy to learn. I have not hit any glitches in this game yet, and hopefully I won't find any anytime soon. So if you have the time and the money, I suggest you go get this game and experience the beginning of Lara Crofts journey. Keep on gaming Gamers!

Dead Space 3

Beam Me Up Isaac!

OK, so I know we're jumping ahead here a little bit, from 8-bit to present, but I have got to talk about Dead Space 3! If you have never played any of the previous ones, I would suggest that you go back and check them out before playing this one, but if you can't wait for all that it's OK, Dead Space 3 does a recap of everything that has happened up until now. That way, if you've never played any before, you can at least have the general gist of what's been happening.
You play as the on going hero in the series, Isaac Clarke. Isaac's journey started as a routine mission to see what was going on with the planet cracking ship the USG Ishimura. What is planet cracking you ask? Basically it is just what it sounds like, this ship cracked open whole planets for mining purposes since we have basically run out of resources on earth. So, Isaac has just had the worst luck since everywhere he goes seems to be overrun with necromorphs, (humans that have been infected by aliens either before or after death). If you want to check out the whole history of the game, just click here and all will be revealed. That was the basic rundown of what's going on, on to Dead Space 3!

This game is so awesome! The controls and the gameplay have not changed much at all, so if you are a veteran Dead Space player, you will have no problem at all getting the hang of this one. There are some new additions to the game though, some pretty awesome ones!
Scavenger Bot

The first one is this scavenger bot, (left pic). This is a pretty handy little guy to have, but you won't start out with him in your inventory. You will acquire him later on in the story.  When you do, you only get one to begin with, but can obtain more later through the game.  These little guys hang out in your inventory until you find a good place to let them roam around.  They then spend about 10 minutes or so scavenging the area for usable crafting materials.  Did you say Crafting?! Yes I did and we will get into that in a minute.  Anyways, after they finish their rounds they scurry back to the work bench so you can pick them up on your next visit to the bench.  You don't have to run back to the closest bench to them, they will be available at whatever bench you are at when they are done.  Now, you can get some upgrades for them, but unless you got one of the special editions of the game you are going to have to pay some real world money for those.  All in all, this little dude is a must have for this next part I'm going to cover.

Weapon Crafting Screen
Weapon Crafting!!! That's right, I said it, weapon crafting.  This is one of the best features of this game.  If you had a favorite pair of weapons from any of the previous Dead Spaces, why not combine them into one awesome gun! It all starts with a frame that you can find or craft from materials you and your scavenger bots have picked up from everywhere.  After that, add on your favorite parts and customize the tips to get a crazy amount of choices.  Then there are the other slots which can act as buffs for the gun, or you.  After you're all finished with your creation, should you want to save it so you know how to make it again, you can make a blueprint of it.  This allows you to make the weapon with spare materials you find lying around.  Also, if you don't feel like creating one from scratch, there are a number of other weapons on the blueprint list to choose from.  So far, my favorite gun that I've made is a Line Gun with a Rivet Chain Gun tucked underneath it.  Fantastic for mowing down large groups of nasties.

The more the merrier
The last new feature I want to talk about is the removal of the multiplayer, and the addition of the online co-op! I thought this was a great idea, since I really didn't care for the multiplayer in Dead Space 2.  Not to mention the fact that I've always wanted to play through the story mode with someone, so that I'm not the only one screaming like a little girl from a necromorph popping out of the ceiling and trying to eat my face.  I haven't tried this feature yet, but plan to in the near future.  There are a couple of side missions that are not accessible unless you have a partner with you.  Although, I do find that part a little unfair since it has to be through online play, and not all of us have access to that.  Therefore, no way to access these areas and see what's waiting inside.  Minus that drawback, I can't wait to call my Dad and tell him to suit up so we can go stomp some aliens!

So whether you are new to Dead Space, or a seasoned veteran, I highly recommend going out and getting this game.  The graphics are amazing, the sound is terrifying, and the overall gameplay is outstanding.  So grab your plasma cutter and suit up to kill some necromorphs! Until next time y'all, keep on gaming Gamers!

Old School

In the Beginning, There Were

Video Games!

"At Least That's What I Remember."

As far back as I can remember, there has always been video games in my life.  It all began with the oldie but a goodie, Colecovision.  I remember waking up at three in the morning and seeing the soft glow of the TV coming from the living room.  As I peeked my head out of my bedroom door and creeped down the hallway, I would arrive in the living room to find my Dad sitting in the chair.  There on the TV was the most wondrous thing I had ever seen, Mr. Do's Castle.  We would sit and play that game for hours, all the while trying to be as quiet as possible so that Mom wouldn't come out and bust us.  Now for those of you that don't remember Mr. Do's Castle, check out this image below.

The whole point of this game was to run up and down ladders, avoid baddies, and knock the blocks out with a hammer possibly crushing one of the baddies below you.  Compared to today games it sounds pretty lame, doesn't it? Well, back then I thought it was the greatest thing I had ever seen! Eventually, the times changed and Nintendo came along.  My Dad ended up buying one "for me", I say this sarcastically because it was really for him.  I had all kinds of awesome games for it like Goonies, Excitebike, Duck Hunt, and of course Super Mario Bros.  My Dad got himself one game, Ultima.  This was one of the first RPGs I had ever seen and I thought it was the most boring game in the history of gaming at that time, (of course my view has changed greatly about RPGs now).  My Dad would play that game for hours on end. I remember constantly begging him to let me play one of my games all the time. Eventually he would finally let me play, and once again I was amazed at the graphics and sounds of these now obsolete games.  Entertained for hours as the pixels danced across the screen, I knew then and there that I would be a Gamer for the rest of my life
What about y'all? What is the first game you can remember playing? Leave your answer in the comment box and let's see what the most popular first game was.  I hope you enjoyed this piece as hopefully it will be the first of many.  Eventually I hope to have my own gaming site online with reviews and what not.  We shall see how this goes first.  Thanks for taking the time to read my blog and I will be seeing you guys soon.  Keep gaming gamers!
